JASPER PLACE
WELLNESS CENTRE
(CONCEPT ONLY)
After completing several great façade improvements on tight budgets, we were referred to Jasper Place Wellness Centre, a local non-profit society with a Community Centre established to deliver meaningful services that will be of benefit to those in need. Meals, showers, clothing, internet access, washer and dryer, showers, dental hygiene and tax returns are some of the services that our community members can access at this site.
The task was to redevelop the existing façade under the City of Edmonton’s Façade Improvement Program on a set budget in order to receive a local grant to proceed with the work.
Based on budget and providing a look that played homage to the history of the Stony Plain business district as well as long-lasting materials, we prepared an exterior design concept that used the existing lines of the building to help redefine the main entrance. The South facing glazing would be replaced with new punched windows with an operable portion to provide natural ventilation within the centre. New LED exterior lights would help light the building at night and illuminate the new signage. Materials at such as Longboard were selected based on longevity and low-maintenance requirements and to allow the appearance of warm woods without the same environmental impact of selecting natural resources.
While the project has not proceeded, we are certain, that should it come to fruition, it will be a new look for a phenomenal local non-profit to help be a beacon of light in the community.
